This document offers an overview of DICOM-Shot, a streamlined application designed to facilitate the upload of images captured with an iPhone to a DICOM server. It aims to simplify the process of clinical image management, promoting centralized storage within hospital environments.

The workflow comprises three straightforward steps:

  • Input patient information
  • Capture the affected area using the iPhone camera
  • Tap the "Send" button to transmit the images

Following these steps enables rapid uploading of images to the designated DICOM server, streamlining imaging procedures.

By utilizing DICOM-Shot, users can manage DICOM images similarly to those captured directly by dedicated cameras, providing an efficient means for hospital-wide image management. Compatibility is maintained with PACS servers supporting the DICOM communication protocol; the application automatically directs images to the predefined server without requiring manual server selection.

Supported Transfer Syntax: Implicit VR Little Endian

Usage Instructions

  1. After installing the application, configure server and client settings via the "Server Settings" and "Client Settings" options found in the Settings menu. Please consult your server administrator for specific configuration details.
  2. To register a new examination, tap the "+" button located at the top right of the inspection list.
  3. Enter patient data. Tapping the search button allows user access to the MWM Server. Selecting any item from the WorkList automatically fills in relevant fields.
  4. Activate the camera by tapping the camera icon and capture images of the affected area.
  5. Tap the "DICOM send" button to transmit images to the connected DICOM server. If transmission delays are observed, adjusting image size settings in Preferences may improve performance.

Additional Technical Details

  • The application supports custom URL schemes: dicom-shot://
  • A Wi-Fi connection is required within the clinical environment.
  • A compatible PACS server supporting DICOM communication protocol is necessary for operation.
  • Users must adhere to institutional security policies when utilizing this application.
  • The MWM Server search functionalities include modality and study date filters; patient ID entry is also supported.
  • Images are compressed into ZIP archives for transfer via cloud services such as Dropbox and OneDrive or viewing applications like OsiriX HD.
  • To remove an entry from the inspection list, swipe left on the target, then tap "Delete".
  • If patient names appear corrupted, setting "Specific Character Set" to "ISO_IR 192" in preferences may resolve display issues.
  • Saving results from the MWM server can be achieved by pressing the "Add offline" button located at the bottom left of the worklist. Offline information can be reviewed via an icon available in the imaging details view, which is useful for environments lacking network connectivity.
  • Due to enhanced iOS security measures, you may be prompted by a message indicating that DICOM-Shot wants to discover and connect to local network devices. Select "OK" to grant permission.
